Martinus Publishing is currently accepting story submissions for the following anthologies:

Forthcoming Anthology:

We Were Heroes
A Super-Powered Anthology

(Deadline Set: February 1, 2015)

What happens when superheroes get old? Do they take it with grace, or do they rage against the dying of the light? Do they get crotchety or start waxing poetically of the good old days? Do they ever beat their lifelong nemesis, or do they continue to duke it out in the nursing home? These are questions readers are dying to explore!

We Were Heroes will be a collection all about super-powered individuals in their waning years. Retired crime-fighters with special talents and technology, crusading vigilantes who find their bodies failing, and old warriors passing the torch to the next generation; this anthology will show us what life is like for these people as they get old. Go beyond their heyday, and show what these legendary heroes will become.

If you wish to submit a story to this anthology, please adhere to the following guidelines:

1: Format: Stories should be formatted in either Times New Roman (preferred) or Courier New, and single-spaced. Please, do not add an extra space between paragraphs. A lot of writers separate their paragraphs into blocks these days, like they're writing a blog post. Please don't submit that way. Also, Files must be in an MS Word compatible format (.doc, .rtf, .docx).

2: PG-13, please With this anthology, we're hoping to produce something Young Adults can enjoy, as well as older folks. No gratuitous sex scenes or horrifically offensive material. Some language is acceptable, but try to keep f-bombs to a minimum.

3: Word Length: 1,500-10,000 words. While we will entertain reprints, we give preference to fresh, previously-unpublished stories.

4: No Simultaneous Submissions. It is most disappointing to read the greatest story and accept it, only to find out that some other editor has bought the rights out from under you. If you submit to this anthology, please have the courtesy to wait for a response before marketing it elsewhere.

5: One Story At A Time. If you have multiple stories you'd like to submit to the anthology, please send only one at a time. After you get a response about your first story, you're free to submit another story, but editors only handle one at a time, generally.

6: No Fan Fiction. Though it may be tempting to write stories about your favorite tv show or comic book characters, there are copyrights and trademarks involved. Even the best piece of fan fiction cannot be accepted.

7: The submission period will be open starting December 1, 2013, and will remain open until February 1, 2015. You may submit your stories to mtiediting (at) inbox.com as an email attachment. Please make sure to put "Submission: We Were Heroes" in the subject line. Include a brief bio in the body of the email, along with your story's title.

8: Response Time: Expect to wait six to eight weeks for a reply.

9: Payment & Terms. Martinus Publishing will be acquiring First Print & Electronic Publishing rights to previously unpublished stories, and will entertain the procurement of reprint rights for previously published stories. As compensation, contributors will be offered a 2% royalty on net sales of the anthology, paid via paypal.

10: Publishing details. This anthology will be released in both print and kindle format, and possibly in other electronic formats. Date of publication is to be announced.

Forthcoming Anthology:

The Secret Life of Ghosts
Hauntings, Heroism, and beyond!

Deadline Set: November 30, 2014!

Ghosts have haunted the minds and imaginations of mankind since the dawn of time. They remain a curiosity, an unanswered question to many, a myth to the skeptics, and a horrible or hopeful truth to others. What sort of might and mayhem do ghosts get into? Are they friend or foe? Friend or foe to whom?

The Secret Life of Ghosts is a collection that will explore various aspects of their haunted existence. From tales of ghosts plaguing the living, to ghosts who can aid those among the living, this collection will show them in all their glory and ghastliness. Give us a glimpse of what it's like to be an ethereal spirit, or what happens when the living encounter those lost souls.

Editor's Note: Stories in this collection can be set in the past, present, or future. They can range from traditional supernatural, to imaginative sci-fi, or even fantasy. I'd like to see a few Adventure stories incorporating ghosts, as well. Also, as this is planned to be a "serious" anthology, please avoid overtly "comedic" (parodies, farces, slapstick, etc.) submissions.
