Short Story Submissions

Forthcoming Anthology:

Forbidden!
Tales of Repression, Restriction, and Rebellion

(Submission Period Set: July 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017)

Throughout recorded history, there have been rules and regulations, customs and traditions. Some have been libertine while others oppressive; the morally strict and the sinfully decadent. There have always been those who impose the law, and those who reject it. Wherever there is civilization, there are things that are Forbidden!

Forbidden is an anthology about that which is disallowed, whether it be the law or custom of a society, a particular group, or even just a single individual. Stories that illustrate the sense or insanity of that which is disallowed, all with an eye on adventure, world-building, and thought-provoking entertainment!

The anthology shall be divided into 3 distinct parts:

1: Forbidden History
-Tales of the past, featuring stories from the earliest pre-history to the 20th Century. Fantasy and Historical Fiction are both welcome!

2: Modern Morass
-Tales of today, featuring stories taking place in our current era (Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Alternate-History welcome, as well as some contemporary fiction).

3: Far Past Tomorrow
-Stories of the future, where Science Fiction is a must!

A Note From The Editor:
The following anthology is being created within the confines of a PG-13 venue. It is NOT planned as an exploration of sexual taboos, nor is it intended to promote or condone anything, legal or illegal (please adhere to guildeline #2 below especially). This collection is set to be entertaining, first and foremost. Please keep this in mind when submitting!

If you wish to submit a story to this anthology, please adhere to the following guidelines:

1: Format: Stories should be formatted in either Times New Roman (preferred) or Courier New, and single-spaced. Please, do not add an extra space between paragraphs. A lot of writers separate their paragraphs into blocks these days, like they're writing a blog post. Please don't submit that way. Also, Files must be in an MS Word compatible format (.doc, .rtf, .docx).

2: PG-13, please With this anthology, we're hoping to produce something Young Adults can enjoy, as well as older folks. No gratuitous sex scenes or horrifically offensive material. Some language is acceptable, but try to keep f-bombs to a minimum.

3: Word Length: 1,500-10,000 words. While we will entertain reprints, we give preference to fresh, previously-unpublished stories.

4: No Simultaneous Submissions. It is most disappointing to read the greatest story and accept it, only to find out that some other editor has bought the rights out from under you. If you submit to this anthology, please have the courtesy to wait for a response before marketing it elsewhere.

5: One Story At A Time. If you have multiple stories you'd like to submit to the anthology, please send only one at a time. After you get a response about your first story, you're free to submit another story, but editors only handle one at a time, generally.

6: No Fan Fiction. Though it may be tempting to write stories about your favorite tv show or comic book characters, there are copyrights and trademarks involved. Even the best piece of fan fiction cannot be accepted.

7: The submission period will be open starting July 1, 2017, and will remain open until December 31, 2017. You may submit your stories to mtiediting (at) inbox.com as an email attachment. Please make sure to put "Submission: We Were Heroes" in the subject line. Include a brief bio in the body of the email, along with your story's title.

8: Response Time: Expect to wait six to twelve weeks for a reply.

9: Payment & Terms. Martinus Publishing will be acquiring First Print & Electronic Publishing rights to previously unpublished stories, and will entertain the procurement of reprint rights for previously published stories. As compensation, contributors will be offered 2% of the net profits from the anthology for the first year of publication, paid via paypal.

10: Publishing details. This anthology will be released in both print and kindle format, and possibly in other electronic formats. Date of publication is to be announced.
